Course Description:
Transition Map (map)
Triathlon Course Description
Set deep in the Balcones Canyon Lands area of the Texas Hill Country, the Pure Austin Fitness Xterra Austin race is one of the most fun and challenging courses on the XTERRA Point Series. The race starts among huge Cypress trees alongside Lake Austin and continues over ridges and bluffs overlooking Emma Long City Park. The rocky, undulating and thickly-wooded terrain will challenge the most experienced racers and, upon completion, will be the source of pride and confidence for newbies as well! Also, as the “Live Music Capital of the World”, we will make it a party too with music, pizza, beer and unique competitions and activities.
Swim Course Description - 1000M (map)
A new swim course design for 09 will reveal the XTERRA standard two loop swim in the chilly, wetsuit-legal waters of Lake Austin. It’s really the Colorado River; so there might actually be a little current to contend with, but I’m guessing you won’t notice a thing. However, you and your cardiovascular system will notice the beach run that divides the two swim loops.
Bike Course Description – 16 Miles (map)
Get ready for this one! Not like any other course you’ve ever ridden, the mountain bike trails here at Emma Long Park are…umm….tricky. Sure you start off with some “relatively tame” single track and jeep roads, but when you “drop into” the Turkey Creek trail the race is on! The thickly wooded Balcones Canyon Lands area provides tons of creek beds, hills, drops, baby-heads, roots, logs, and ledges, so it’s safe to say you won’t be bored. Don’t worry, our team will mark the course to warn you of potential dismount sections so even beginners will have fun at our race. Also, don’t forget about our second annual crowning of Mr. and Mrs. Clean. This unique competition is a hoot! During the race, there will be four specially marked sections on the bike course. Your job is to see how much of each section you can “clean” (not put your foot down). You will earn points based on how far you can make it. The racer with the most points wins the title and crown!
Run Course Description - 5.5 miles (map)
You will start off along the shady bank of Lake Austin under the beautiful Cypress trees to get your running legs under you. But then, all heck breaks loose with a scramble up a limestone cliff! From there, a tight single track trail weaves back and forth with sweet views of the lake. This isn't the time for sight seeing, but you'll find it hard to keep your eyes on the trail. The flat and fast sections will let you show your speed, but soon you’ll be in the tight stuff again. Oh yeah, you have to come down the cliff too. Once you’ve finished, cool down in the lake and join us for a NXNW beer (awesome local tradition) and Mangia Chicago Stuffed pizza.
Trail Run Course Description
The trail run will consist of two different offerings; a 5K and 18K. The 5K will be very similar to the 5.5 mile course as described above...just shorter! You will still get the challenge of running the two cliffs and all the fun in between. You'll just make it home a little sooner! Although shorter, the 5K will be a challenging race that won't be a personal best time for most of you. The 18K is the full 5.5 course as described above with two loops instead of one! Lucky you!
Mountain Bike Race Course Description
The Pure Austin Fitness Emma's Revenge Mountain Bike Race will consist of one 16 mile loop of the tri course as described above. Many of you know, or have heard, about the Emma loop and know how tough it is. It hasn't changed, it's hard! But look, guys are doing double back flips on motorcycles these days; I think you can handle a little "Emma". Get out there and cyclo-cross the scketchy sections and have a blast!!! We will warn you of the danger zones and when your finished, join us for a beer and tell us all about it!!! We'll have a few Mr. and Mrs. Clean sections worked up for some additional lying...I mean excuses...I mean...discussion topics at the finish.
